Overview
Tick-borne encephalitis (TBE) is a viral infection of the brain spread by ticks in forested areas of Central, Eastern and Northern Europe and parts of Asia. Risk is highest from spring to autumn.
Who should consider it
- Hiking, camping or cycling in forested areas
- Working outdoors in higher-risk regions
- Extended stays in rural Central or Eastern Europe
Two doses 1–3 months apart, with a third dose 5–12 months later. Accelerated schedules are available.
High protection after two doses. Continue using insect repellent and check for ticks.
Possible side effects
Sore arm, mild fever and tiredness can occur.
