Overview

Dengue is a viral infection spread by Aedes mosquitoes that bite during the day. It is common across Asia, the Americas, Africa and the Pacific. A vaccine is available for certain travellers who have previously had dengue.

Who should consider it

  • Travellers with a confirmed previous dengue infection
  • Long-stay travel to areas with frequent dengue outbreaks

Two doses, 3 months apart. Eligibility depends on age and previous dengue infection.

Protection

Vaccination should be combined with strict daytime mosquito bite avoidance.

Headache, muscle ache, injection site pain and tiredness can occur.
